What We Repair

What Counts As a Denture Repair

Denture repair covers any damage to the structure of an existing denture - cracks in the acrylic base, fractures that have split a denture in two, broken or missing teeth, broken clasps on a partial, and warped or worn-down areas. Because we operate our own on-site lab in NW Calgary, most repairs are turned around the same day without shipping the denture to an outside facility.

Repair is not the same as a reline. A reline addresses fit - the way the denture sits against your gums. A repair restores the denture's structure. Many patients need one and not the other, but it is common for an older denture to benefit from both at once. We will tell you exactly what is needed during the assessment.

Common Denture Damage We Fix

  • Cracked or fractured base - a hairline crack along the acrylic that, if ignored, will split the denture in two
  • Snapped denture - the denture has broken into two or more pieces, often from a drop onto a hard floor or sink
  • Broken or missing tooth - a tooth has chipped, broken off, or fallen out of the denture
  • Broken clasp on a partial - the metal or flexible clasp that grips your natural teeth has bent or broken
  • Worn or damaged occlusal surfaces - chewing surfaces worn smooth or chipped from years of use
  • Loose or detached tooth - a tooth still in place but no longer bonded securely to the base

If your denture has separated cleanly and the pieces fit back together, bring all the pieces in - do not glue them. Aligned pieces produce a stronger, more accurate repair than a denture that has been pre-glued at home. More on that below.

Why Dentures Break

Most denture breakage is mechanical - dropped on a hard surface, sat on, or stressed by an uneven bite that has gone unaddressed for too long. A poorly fitting denture also breaks more often. When a denture rocks or sits unevenly, the chewing forces concentrate on a small area of acrylic instead of distributing across the whole base, which fatigues the material and causes cracks over time. Patients who have had their complete or partial dentures for more than 7 to 10 years see breakage more often as the acrylic becomes brittle with age.

Same-Day Repairs at Our On-Site Lab

Because the lab is in our Calgary clinic, most repairs are completed in hours, not days. No third-party lab. No shipping.

Repair, Reline, or Replace?

Steve assesses the structural damage, fit, and age of your denture in a single appointment. As a rule of thumb:

  • Repair - damage is localized, the rest of the denture is sound
  • Reline - the structure is fine but the denture has become loose against the gums
  • Replace - the denture is more than 7 to 10 years old, the bite is heavily worn, or repeated breakage suggests fatigued acrylic
What to Expect

The Same-Day Repair Process

Walk-in or call ahead to get on the day's repair list. The flow is short and predictable.

  1. 1

Bring the Denture (and All the Pieces)

If the denture is broken into pieces, bring every fragment - including any teeth that have come loose. Pieces that fit together cleanly produce the strongest, most accurate repair. Do not use household glue.

  2. 2

    Free Assessment with Steve

Steve inspects the damage, checks the underlying fit, and reviews how old the denture is. You get a clear recommendation - repair, reline, replace, or a combination - along with timing and cost.

  3. 3

Lab Work in Our On-Site Calgary Lab

Once you approve the repair, the denture goes straight to our in-house lab. Cracks are bonded, missing teeth are replaced with shade-matched acrylic teeth, and clasps are repaired or replaced. Polish and finish bring the denture back to its original appearance.

  4. 4

    Same-Day Pickup and Fit Check

Most patients pick up the same afternoon, often by 3pm. We try the denture in, check the bite, and make sure the repaired denture feels exactly like it should.

  5. 5

    Insurance and CDCP Billing

We direct-bill most major insurance providers and the Canadian Dental Care Plan for eligible patients. You will know what is covered before any work begins.

A Quick Warning

Please Do Not Use Super Glue On Your Dentures

Household glues - cyanoacrylate "super glue," epoxy, gel adhesives - are not food-safe and not designed for the warm, moist environment of the mouth. They leach chemicals, do not bond properly to dental acrylic, and almost always misalign the pieces by a fraction of a millimetre. That misalignment matters: even a tiny offset throws off the bite, causes new pressure points on the gums, and usually requires the repair to be redone from scratch.

If you have already glued a denture together, bring it in anyway. We can often clean and re-bond it properly. We would rather see a glued denture and have the conversation than have you keep wearing something that will not last and may be making the next repair harder. Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about denture repair from Calgary patients.

  • How quickly can a broken denture be repaired?

Most denture repairs at North Hill Denture Clinic are completed the same day. Drop the denture off in the morning, pick it up the same afternoon - typically by 3pm. Because our lab is on-site in NW Calgary, no shipping or third-party turnaround is involved. Complex repairs that require multiple stages or impressions may need a second visit.

  • Can a cracked or broken denture be repaired, or do I need a new one?

In most cases a repair is the right answer. Cracks, snapped bases, broken teeth, and broken partial clasps are all standard same-day repairs. A new denture is usually only recommended when the denture is more than 7 to 10 years old, the teeth are worn down significantly, the bite has shifted, or repeated breaks suggest the acrylic is fatigued. Steve will give you an honest assessment during a free consultation.

  • How much does denture repair cost in Calgary?

Simple repairs - a single crack, a re-bonded tooth - are among the most affordable services we offer, often well under the cost of a single visit to a regular dental office. Repairs involving multiple teeth, broken clasps on partials, or significant structural damage cost more. Many insurance plans cover denture repairs, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan covers repairs for eligible patients. We will give you a clear quote and check your coverage before any work begins. See our denture pricing page for ranges.

  • Why did my denture break?

Most denture breakage is mechanical - dropped on a hard surface, sat on, or chewed forcefully on something hard. A second common cause is poor fit. When a denture rocks unevenly, chewing forces concentrate in one area and fatigue the acrylic until it cracks. If your denture has broken more than once, it is worth assessing the fit as well as the structure. A reline may be needed alongside the repair.

  • Should I try to glue my dentures back together at home?

No. Household super glue, epoxy, and other consumer adhesives are not food-safe and will not bond dental acrylic correctly. They almost always misalign the pieces by a tiny amount, which throws off the bite and creates pressure points on the gums - meaning the repair has to be redone professionally anyway. Bring all the pieces in and we will repair it properly the same day.

  • What if a tooth has fallen out of my denture?

This is one of the most common repairs we handle. If you have the tooth, bring it - in many cases we can re-bond the original. If the tooth is missing or damaged, we replace it with a shade-matched acrylic tooth so the final look is consistent with the rest of the denture. Same-day turnaround applies for most single-tooth repairs.

  • Are denture repairs covered by insurance or the CDCP?

Yes, most insurance plans cover denture repairs, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan covers repairs for eligible patients. We direct-bill to most major insurance providers and to Sun Life for CDCP patients. We will confirm coverage before any work is done so there are no surprises.
