How implant-supported dentures are different

Traditional dentures rest on your gums and can move when you eat or speak. Implant-supported dentures attach to a small number of dental implants for a far more stable hold.

They stay in place

The denture clips onto implants instead of resting on the gums, so it does not slip or rock.

Eat more comfortably

A stable bite makes it easier to enjoy a wider range of foods with confidence.

No denture paste

The implants do the holding, so there is no need to rely on adhesive creams.

A natural feel

A secure fit lets you talk and smile without worrying about your dentures shifting.

Honest note: implant-supported dentures are a separate treatment and are not covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Payment and financing options are available, and your denturist will go through them clearly at your free consultation so you know what to expect.
Your options

Snap-in or fixed implant dentures

Implant-supported dentures come in two main styles. Your denturist will help you choose the right one for your mouth and lifestyle.

Snap-in dentures

Removable dentures that clip securely onto implants. You take them out to clean them, and they stay firmly in place while worn.

Fixed implant dentures

A denture that is fixed onto the implants and stays in your mouth. It is removed and maintained by your denturist.

Upper or lower

Implant support can be used for an upper denture, a lower denture, or both, depending on your needs.

Better stability than traditional dentures

Both styles hold far more securely than a conventional denture that rests on the gums alone.

Common questions

Implant denture questions, answered

How do implant-supported dentures work?

A small number of dental implants are placed in the jaw. Your denture then attaches to those implants, either clipping on or fixed in place. This gives the denture a stable anchor instead of resting on the gums alone.

Are they removable or fixed?

Both options exist. Snap-in dentures are removable, so you take them out to clean them and they clip securely back on. Fixed implant dentures stay in your mouth and are maintained by your denturist. We will help you choose what suits you.

Who is a good candidate for implant-supported dentures?

Many people who wear traditional dentures, or who are missing most or all of their teeth, can be candidates. Suitability depends on your jawbone and general health. A free consultation with your denturist is the best way to find out.

What are the payment options?

Implant-supported dentures are not covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Payment and financing options are available, and your denturist will go through them with you at your free consultation so the cost is clear before you decide.

How are implant-supported dentures different from traditional ones?

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and can move when you eat or talk. Implant-supported dentures attach to implants, so they hold much more securely and many patients find them more comfortable and stable.
